Freeze-drying (lyophilisation) keeps peptides stable during transport and storage. This note explains why.
Water out, stability in
During lyophilisation the water is drawn out of the peptide under vacuum and low temperature. What remains is a dry powder or cake that is far less prone to degradation than a solution.
Ready for the lab
In freeze-dried form a research peptide stays usable for a long time, even during shipping without continuous cooling. Just before use it is dissolved in the lab. See also our note on reconstitution.
