What does 99% purity mean for a peptide?
A purity percentage tells how much of the material is the intended peptide. We explain how to read it.
Measuring the main component
Purity is usually determined with HPLC. The percentage shows what part of the material is the intended peptide; the rest are small by-components from the synthesis. A value above 99% means the vast majority is the target peptide.
Percentage and identity
Purity goes together with identity. Mass spectrometry confirms that the peptide truly has the correct molecular mass. Both appear on the certificate of analysis that accompanies every batch.
