Tissue & repair processes

Peptides that researchers study in the lab in cell and tissue models. Examples are BPC-157, TB-500 and KPV. Strictly for laboratory research, with a certificate of analysis (CoA) per batch on request.

For laboratory and research use only. Not for human or animal consumption, diagnostics or therapeutic use.

Tissue research focuses on short protein chains and signalling peptides involved in tissue building and the regulation of inflammatory processes. The compounds in this area are studied because they act on pathways the body itself uses when responding to damage, such as the formation of new blood vessels, the migration of cells toward an injured region and the assembly of connective tissue.

Many of these compounds are not foreign inventions but short fragments of larger proteins that occur naturally in the body. Researchers isolate such a fragment to study which part of the original protein is responsible for a particular signal. Stability also plays a role: in the laboratory peptides are often modified so they stay intact longer, which makes it possible to track their action on tissue processes more precisely.

Angiogenesis and cell migration

A recurring theme is angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels. Peptides such as BPC-157 and TB-500 are studied for their influence on vessel formation and on the movement of cells toward an affected region. TB-500 is a fragment related to thymosin beta-4 and to actin, a protein involved in the internal scaffold of the cell. These points of action are central in preclinical models.

Immune modulation and inflammatory balance

A second theme is regulation of the immune system. Thymosin Alpha-1 is studied for its role in the maturation of certain immune cells. KPV is a short fragment related to a naturally occurring signalling molecule and is investigated on inflammatory pathways. LL-37 belongs to the antimicrobial peptides, and ARA-290 acts on a receptor involved in tissue protection. The common thread is how these signals influence the balance between inflammation and tissue repair in models.

From test tube to preclinical model

How is tissue repair actually measured in research? A common first step is the so-called scratch assay, in which a gap is made in a layer of cultured cells and researchers watch how quickly the cells fill it again. Further along, preclinical models come into view in which tissue building and vessel formation are examined. This stepwise approach explains why much of the data on compounds such as BPC-157 and TB-500 comes from laboratory and animal models rather than from humans.

Did you know

  • TB-500 is related to thymosin beta-4, a protein naturally present in many body tissues.
  • KPV consists of just three amino acids and is a fragment of a larger endogenous hormone.
  • ARA-290 was designed around a receptor related to that of the hormone erythropoietin.
  • BPC-157 is derived from a sequence identified in gastric juice.
  • LL-37 belongs to the cathelicidins, a family of endogenous defence peptides.
